Overview

Students often associate accounting with simply crunching numbers; however, students seeking an Associate of Arts in our accounting area of study will find a wide range of exciting jobs that will allow them to work in the public or private sector.

Our Accounting Area of Study provides students with numerous career opportunities. For instance, a student may assist small businesses in filing their taxes, may work as a financial examiner who ensures that others are in compliance with laws, or may even become a forensic accountant who investigates theft or fraud. Jobs in the accounting field rely heavily on relationship-building and open communication. Having an accounting degree does not just mean that an employee sits behind a computer all day!

As students pursue their two-year associate degree with an interest in accounting, they will take typical general education courses as they focus on enhancing their skills in courses such as Principles of Accounting, Legal Environment of Business, and Microeconomics. Students who explore the Accounting Area of Study will be introduced to a general business curriculum that will prepare them for upper-level coursework upon transfer to a bachelor鈥檚 program.
