With a diverse background and skill set, Marc Rivet is an active collaborative pianist, arranger, clinician, director, and educator. Originally from Raceland, Louisiana, Rivet graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2017 with a Bachelor’s in Music Education in both Piano and Percussion, as well as a Bachelor’s in Music in Percussion Performance. During his undergraduate studies, Rivet took piano lessons under Dr. Lois Leventhal and percussion lessons under Dr. John Wooton. Currently, he is completing a Master’s of Music in Collaborative Piano under the tutelage of Dr. Michael Bunchman at USM. In addition to performing as a collaborative pianist, Rivet taught Basics of Live-Streaming and ran the Livestream Team for the School of Music.

As a collaborative pianist at Southern Miss, Rivet performed with various instrumentalists and vocalists, as well as the University Treble Choir and Wind Ensemble. Rivet has had the opportunity to study opera and musical theatre collaborative piano in Germany as part of the International Performing Arts Institute (2019–Present.)

As a percussionist, Rivet has performed with groups such as Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps (2012) and the World Champion Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps (2014–2016). Rivet also found success as a solo marimbist winning the 2014 William T. Gower Concerto Competition and as one of four finalists in the 2016 Percussive Arts Society International Solo Marimba Competition.

Rivet has an active career as an educator, sound designer, and arranger, most notably within the marching arts. As an educator, Rivet has worked with groups such as Bluecoats (2018 – Present), Oak Grove High School (2016 Silver Medalist WGI Scholastic Percussion A), South Jones High School (2019 Gold Medalist WGI Scholastic Open), Louisiana Stars Drum and Bugle Corps, Petal High School, and others. He has arranged and designed sound for groups such as Oak Grove High School, South Jones High School, St. Tammany Parish Schools, and Stone High School. Rivet also presented a clinic on solo marimba at Florida Percussive Arts Society’s Day of Percussion in 2016.

Another area of his educational expertise is music technology. Rivet has presented clinics on topics such as keyboard programming through Mainstage and audio/video recording fundamentals for vocalists and collaborative pianists. Rivet has presented such clinics for organizations such as the International Performing Arts Institute and Hattiesburg Teachers Music League.

In addition to experience in the world of classical music, Rivet worked as a musical theatre pianist and music director with organizations such as the University of Southern Mississippi Theatre and Dance Department and the Hattiesburg Civic Light Opera (HCLO). In 2018, Rivet served as chorus master in HCLO’s production of Evita and as music director in their production of Mamma Mia! He was also pianist and music director for USM’s productions of Cabaret and Guys and Dolls.
